Reliable heat exchanger skid for industrial oil conditioning systems

Project overview

For a customer in the pharmaceutical industry, RvS Group designed and delivered a heat exchanger skid connected to the jacket system of an oil storage tank. The tank is used for storing oil applied in pharmaceutical production, while the heat exchanger maintains a stable oil temperature under varying operating conditions. This temperature control is essential to ensure product quality, process reliability, and consistent oil performance.

Why precise temperature control is essential

Excessive temperatures can reduce the nutritional value of oil and accelerate oxidation, leading to off-odors, altered taste, and reduced product stability. Low temperatures can cause the oil to partially solidify or become cloudy, increasing the risk of blocked filters and piping systems. The heat exchanger skid provides accurate temperature control, minimizing these fluctuations and ensuring consistent oil quality and process reliability.

Our structured approach

RvS Group executed the complete detail engineering scope for this project, from order intake through to final delivery. As part of the process engineering activities, all customer-provided documentation, including P&IDs, equipment lists, and 2D layouts, was reviewed, optimized, and finalized to ensure a consistent and technically complete design package.

We performed all required process calculations and selected and specified the appropriate equipment, including pumps, valves, and other critical process components. In addition, we developed a complete equipment list to ensure accurate project documentation and procurement.

Project and mechanical engineering

Our scope of work also included project management and mechanical engineering activities:

  • Providing technical support to the Kuijpers project team throughout the project
  • Supplier drawings reviewed, verified, and approved
  • Coordination and management of subcontractors
  • Participated in project meetings and provided technical input

From a mechanical engineering perspective, we developed both 2D layout drawings and a complete 3D model of the heat exchanger unit. Our scope also included work preparation activities, including material take-offs, creation of BOM lists, preparation of execution plans, and procurement of all required equipment.

Project delivery and results

Upon project completion, we delivered the complete technical documentation package, including:

  • As-built P&ID’s
  • Utility and equipment lists
  • Powerlist
  • Construction documentation package
  • Maintenance and operation manuals
  • Food safety documentation and certificates
  • 2D layout drawings and 3D model of the heat exchanger unit

Through this comprehensive engineering approach and thorough preparation, the customer can reliably condition the oil while maintaining consistent quality and achieving an efficient production process.
